Mental health and resilience services by KonTerra
Resilience gives us the psychological strength to bounce back from tough or challenging times. If our resilience levels are low, too much stress can lead to negative emotions and behaviours including insomnia, persistent illness, and irritability and anger. In extreme circumstances, low resilience has also been shown to be a predictor of risk for suicide and suicidal thoughts.
Through KonTerra, we offer a range of mental health and resilience services tailored to the humanitarian and international development sectors. These include critical incident response, pre-deployment and post-deployment consultations and on-site support in high-stress, high-threat environments. Staff members learn how to build cohesion, enhance their communication, transform conflict and leverage diversity so that they can thrive in the midst of change, upheaval and turbulence.
Cigna’s Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT)
Life is full of ups and downs, and we’ve all faced challenges in our personal and professional lives that have impacted how we feel. These days, however, it’s not always easy to get a face-to-face appointment with a therapist, or perhaps find a family member or friend we feel comfortable talking to about our feelings.
Cigna’s computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT) is designed to help participants develop the skills to manage their problems through computer-based training, rather than talking to a therapist. Topics – ranging from money worries to and grief and loss – help participants explore the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Our cCBT platform is accessible on computer, tablet or smartphone and puts years of clinical research and best-in-class digital well-being tools at employees’ fingertips.
Cigna and KonTerra’s Employee Assistance & Resilience Programme (EARPTM)
Working in conflict zones, complex emergencies and other high-stress environments can have a significant impact on staff members and their families. Organisations are increasingly aware of the need for effective care and resilience support to meet the unique needs of staff working in such conditions.
Cigna and KonTerra’s partnership allows staff in international humanitarian and development organisations to receive tailored support through the Employee Assistance & Resilience Programme (EARP™) – especially those in high-stress environments. EARP™ is built around an array of highly customisable services intended to strengthen individual and organisational resilience. Our experts work with organisations to gain an understanding of their precise requirements and to develop a comprehensive solution.
International Employee Assistance Programme (IEAP)
Mental health issues can have a broad range of causes but are often the result of a combination of factors. These might include stress at work, family issues, social relationships and financial health. Left unchecked, they can have a serious impact on physical and mental well-being. With so many elements to consider, how can an organisation provide its people with complete care and support?
Through IEAP, we offer professional counselling, resources and information to help staff members address short-term mental health issues caused by pressure at work or at home. In addition to counselling, IEAP Level 3 includes referrals to local resources to assist with legal, financial, and dependent care issues, as well as other practical challenges such as relocation, travel and purchasing a new home. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Elevate
Depression is more than just feeling a bit down or having a bad day. It can cause feelings of sadness and hopelessness over long periods of time. Depression and anxiety often go hand in hand, but it is common to experience them individually as well. Whether apart or together, both can have a major impact on everyday life and often require targeted, long-term support.
Our Elevate programme is an addition to our EAP and addresses the needs of staff members who require long-term support for clinically diagnosed depression or anxiety. Staff members get fast, easy access to counselling sessions with a CBT psychologist. To further aid recovery, sessions are delivered in a one-to-one, offline setting. And what’s more, our counsellors are often available in areas of the world where mental health services might be harder to access.
Onsite Rapid Response
Even with the most robust processes and well-being benefits in place, sometimes events occur that can negatively impact staff members’ work or personal lives. More often than not, these situations are unavoidable and can happen without warning. A traumatic event can create situations where team members, and their families, need immediate support.
Onsite Rapid Response assists with emotional, practical and physical support immediately after a crisis. If an organisation is faced with a traumatic event – such as a workplace accident, an act of violence or terrorism, or the death of a colleague – trauma professionals can be called on to help the affected individuals cope with the emotional impact of the event, and help the organisation restore stability. The service can be set up quickly and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Telephonic Wellness Coaching
With so much time spent juggling work and home commitments, living a healthy life can be challenging. Employers can support staff by providing access to services that lead to sustainable and positive behavioural lifestyle changes.
Through our Telephonic Wellness Coaching programme, we ensure staff members have access to trusted experts to focus on specific areas of their life that are causing concern. In addition to stress management, our coaches are trained to work with participants in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, sleep, smoking cessation and overall lifestyle. Coaching sessions can be scheduled according to the staff member’s time zone and language preferences.
