New health service: Omada – a diabetes prevention programme for eligible customers across all CGHO plans [US residents only]
Following the August launch of our diabetes prevention programme in partnership with Omada, it feels like a better time than ever to share a closer look at the success story that fuelled GIH’s decision to partner with this transformative company, and a brief reminder of the eligibility criteria for the programme.
What is the Omada Diabetes Prevention programme?
An innovative, virtual, drug-free weight-loss programme, Omada focuses on preventing the development of Type 2 Diabetes and other weight-associated health conditions in at-risk populations. It works as a long-term weight management solution by building healthy habits and promoting future-proof, sustainable weight loss. As GLP-1 drugs become ever more prominent in the market, customers must understand the potential risks and limitations of these ‘quick fix’ solutions.
How well does this health programme work?
In a study carried out by Omada, 19% of participants lost 5% or more of their initial weight, and 58% achieved normal HbA1c (blood glucose) levels at 12 months. Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes can lead to complications like nerve damage, blindness, and stroke. By enrolling in the Omada programme and building healthy habits, customers can be reassured that maintaining these habits will significantly reduce their risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
What if some of your customers are interested in GLP-1s?
By comparison, research has shown that approximately 2/3 rd of GLP-1 users, who receive no form of behavioural coaching, will return to their previous weight after ceasing treatment. Common side effects of GLP- 1 use can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation, and will affect more than 1 in 10 users.
What does the programme feature?
Omada is completely free for eligible customers [RRP $700]. They will receive a:
- digital smart-scale
- access to an in-app, 1 to 1 health coach
